
Ancient Civilizations and Cultures
You will be studying about Ancient Civilizations and Cultures. Your job is to:
Work cooperatively with three or four of your classmates in your civilization.
Your first task as a group is to decide the roles you will play in these ancient societies. Only one person to a character so that all members of the society will be represented.
1. A noble or royal person
2. Farmer/ slave/
3. Philosopher/scholar/artist
4.warrior/ inventor/ merchant
Each one of you must create a character or choose a real life person. You will need to research and find out the following things:
Name and rank
Family members
Where you lived-what kind of shelter?
What you wore
What you ate (you may include recipes)
What tools or equipment you used
What kinds of festivals or games you would have participated in, what would you have done for fun?
Would you have played an instrument? Painted? Written poetry?
Did you live in the city or country?
Include any information that might have given a clue as to what your life would have been like. Please be as descriptive as you possibly can.

Your group has been asked to research a particular civilization, and to present to your classmates the information in an interesting and creative way. If at any time you are stuck or confused, please ask for help. Have fun, work hard, and work together.

All assignments are to be single-spaced, written legibly in ink or typed.
In addition each student will complete during the unit:
4 -weekly vocabulary lists and spelling tests.
Bonus Credits:
Please consider this AFTER you have completed the assignments given, and turned them in on time. Remember that I am looking for quality.
We are also fortunate to have a guest artist for the entire unit. We will be working with a dancer from On the Boards.
Materials Needed
1. 2-4 books on your civilization or a source from the Internet.
These are to be brought to class every day. Due by Wednesday, September 15
.
2. Materials needed to make your artifact or tool. (See me if you are having trouble finding materials)
3. Your imagination and detective abilities.
This assignment is to be done in class as well as for homework. This means that you will have a minimum of 1/2½ to 1 hour of research homework EVERY NIGHT!
I will need to see your database by October 15
I will need to see a rough draft of your journal by October 22.
I will need a roughed out plan by your group and your outline by October 12
We will have seven weeks to complete this assignment
All work to be turned in and presented by November 5
*I have read this assignment and will keep my papers neat and organized, follow instructions and turn in all assignments on time.
