One of the most effectual ways that modern non-profits raise money to benefit worthy causes is through sponsored runs and walks. These walks and runs have been around for a very long time. One of the earliest was when The March of Dimes put together its very first WalkAmerica in 1970. Ever since then people have been walking and running mile after mile to raise money or awareness to causes that lie near and dear to their hearts; these races are a perfect blend of competition and charity, health and a helping hand.
CyberTrails is proud to be a sponsor for one of our customers, David Grantz who is with Exchange My Mail, as he participates in Bike MS New York City on October 21st, 2012; a ride put on by the National MS Society. The National MS Society is a collective of passionate individuals who want to do something about MS now—to move together toward a world free of multiple sclerosis. MS stops people from moving. We exist to make sure it doesn’t.
The Bike MS rides take place throughout the year in all 50 states and are typically one or two days long; the money raised goes to fund research to discover better treatments for multiple sclerosis and to move closer towards a cure. In Arizona alone, there are about 8,000 people living with MS. Nationally the number is much bigger with about 400,000 Americans suffering from this disease. Worldwide, there are about 2.1 million people affected by the disease.
People like Mr. Grantz and events like Bike MS along with sponsors like CyberTrails are making a difference. Pedal by pedal, mile by mile, penny by penny we each can impact the lives of people who live each day of their life with this difficult disease. The National MS Society writes that, “There are more potential therapies in the pipeline for MS than at any other time in history.” A warm thanks to David Grantz of Exchange My Mail for getting on his bike and making a difference. Thanks also for reaching out to CyberTrails so that we could also be involved in making a difference as well and to all the volunteers who make events like this possible.
If you would like to learn how to get involved go to http://www.nationalmssociety.org/get-involved/index.aspx to join the movement. As John Donne so eloquently wrote, “No man is an Island, entire of itself….” None of us should be alone in our struggles; whether it is financial or physical, whether you are cheering on the sidelines or donating your sweat, one by one and together we can make a difference.
