Commands Used To Register or Maintain IRC Nicknames
I wont even begin
to list all the commands for nickserv here, but I will outline the most
important and useful ones. If you desire a complete copy, please e-mail me
from the link below and I will send them to you or ask me online to get a DCC
of the commands.
Command Purpose and Use
Register
The register command is used to register your nickname with nickserv.
When
you register, nickserv automatically adds the ip address you are currently
using
to your 'access' list. The access list controls what ip is accepted as
the registered
owner of the nick, without having to identify to nickserv with your
password. If
you find yourself having to identify every time you log on, check you access
list
to be sure that the correct ip address is listed for you. You may change
your
access list at any time. The nickname is not entered in the command
when you register, as nickserv registers the nick you are currently using.
The command is: /ns register password email-address
Example
/ns register re34t user@excite.com
Identify
The identify command is used to identify you to nickserv as the rightful owner
of a nickname. It is required when you are making changes to your
nickname
settings, or are using a different ip address than the one you used when you
originally registered.
The command is: /ns identify password
Or, if you wanted to identify to a registered nick that your are not currently
using:
/ns identify nickname password
Drop
Drops a registered nickname from registration. You must identify before using
this command.
The command is: /ns drop nickname
Ghost
The ghost command is used to kill your registered nickname from the server.
An example would be when you get disconnected and your nickname is still
listed as being used, or when an unauthorized user is using your nickname.
You must identify with your password for the nick to use the command.
The command is: /ns ghost nickname
Recover
The recover command is used to recover your nick when someone else is
using it. You must identify before using the command.
The command is: /ns recover nickname
