That Are Used On Most Networks
Command Purpose Example
Join To join any given channel by using the #channel name. /join #irchelp
List Lists all channels that are open on the network. /list
Nick Used to change to a new nickname. /nick rainmaker
Ignore
When used, causes you to no longer see what that
person /ignore rainmaker
is saying to you, or anyone else, until they are removed
from the ignore list.
Whois
Lists 'whois' information about a person using the
nick, /whois
rainmaker
such as an IP address and what server the person is
using. Very handy for making sure your talking to the
person that you think you are.
Whowas
Lists the same information as 'whois' only it is
used /whowas
rainmaker
AFTER the person has left IRC. There is a short time
limit after the person leaves IRC that this can be used.
Usually one minute.
